Connecticut Artist Joyce Therieault Celebrates Costa Rica’s Natural Beauty in New London Exhibition
Connecticut fine artist Joyce Therieault will present her vibrant, nature-inspired Costa Rica collection in a special two-artist exhibition at The Local Gallery, located at 114 Bank Street in New London, Connecticut. The exhibition, shared with artist Sarah Bishop, opens Friday, October 30.
Inspired by Costa Rica's extraordinary biodiversity and its Pura Vida philosophy, Therieault's collection transports viewers into an imaginative world where tropical wildlife, lush botanical forms, and brilliant colors come together in captivating compositions.
Blending realism with elements of magical realism, Therieault creates paintings that celebrate the beauty, resilience, and interconnectedness of the natural world. Her work features tropical birds, butterflies, dragonflies, and vibrant flora, often incorporating unexpected details and dimensional textures that invite viewers to look more closely.
"Nature continually reminds me that beauty and resilience coexist," says Therieault. "My hope is that these paintings inspire a sense of wonder and encourage people to appreciate the extraordinary natural world around us."
With more than three decades of painting experience, Therieault combines traditional oil painting techniques with contemporary mixed-media approaches, experimenting with texture, fabric, metallic accents, and layered compositions. A graduate of the Milan Mastery Program, she continues to explore new ways of bringing depth, movement, and emotion to her work.
Her paintings have been exhibited throughout Connecticut and Rhode Island, including at the Lyme Art Association, Hygienic Art, and the Artist Cooperative Gallery of Westerly. In 2026, she received second-place recognition in the Stamford Art Association's World Culture exhibition and third place in its Caribbean and Latin exhibition.
