New Haven, CT, November 19, 2024 – Kick off the holiday season as the New Haven
Ballet returns to the Shubert Theatre in New Haven to present Lisa Kim Sanborn’s The
Nutcracker, a beloved holiday tradition.
This treat for the whole family stars Sara Adams and Harrison Coll of the New York City
Ballet as the Sugar Plum Fairy and Cavalier. Talented young dancers from New Haven
Ballet’s School and Guest Artists William Gutierrez and Jacob Taylor round out the cast.
Artistic Director and choreographer Lisa Kim Sanborn said, “Nothing gets you into the
holiday spirit quite like The Nutcracker, and we have elevated the production this year.”
Sanborn adds, “If you have not attended one of our shows in recent years, you will likely
be surprised by the grandeur of our production. This year, it features new choreography
to showcase the spectacular sets we acquired from the Milwaukee Ballet, giving the
ballet a fresh feel. New costumes have also been added; the overall visual experience
is breathtaking.”
“The Nutcracker is a rare opportunity to enjoy the incredible artistry and skill of New
York City Ballet stars in the conveniently located Shubert Theatre, which features an
upgraded sound and lighting system. We are extremely excited to perform,” she
concludes.
The Shubert Theatre is located at 247 College Street in the heart of New Haven’s
popular downtown restaurant and shopping district. Tickets start at $30 and may be
purchased at Shubert.com or the Shubert Box Office at Tel. (203) 562-5666. The
performance features exquisite costumes and larger-than-life sets, including a
Christmas tree that grows to colossal heights and a snowstorm. The timeless score by
Tchaikovsky will fill the rafters when local singers lend their voices to the Waltz of the
Snowflakes.

The story follows young Clara as she enjoys her family’s festive party, where her Uncle
Drosselmeyer entertains guests with magic and dancing dolls, gifts her with a real
nutcracker, and meets his charming nephew. After falling asleep and dreaming of her
magical evening, Clara awakens to a daring battle between a fierce Mouse King and
brave soldiers led by a heroic Nutcracker Prince, who resembles the charming nephew.
The Prince joins her on adventures in the Land of Snow, and they journey through the
Land of Sweets, where they meet the Sugar Plum Fairy and her handsome Cavalier.
This magical show will have you tapping your feet and humming familiar tunes.
