Hamden, CT —Remember 1990? In that year of big hair and the electric slide, Another Octave made its stage debut with an intrepid band of about 15 women. In Yearbook: Class of 1990, the chorus — now 50 strong — will celebrate its 35th anniversary with music and memories from the past three and a half decades.

We’ve dipped into our archives for some of some of the songs we – and you – have loved best and added new pieces as well. We’ll pay homage to women across the years like the indomitable Joan of Arc, and poke some fun at our own history with Tag Sale Blues. You’ll hear songs of resistance by Holly Near and Ysaye Barnwell, and country anthems by Dolly Parton and The Chicks. Characters from Star Wars will make an appearance. Of course, no AO anniversary concert would be complete without one of our most beloved pieces, Music in My Mother’s House. And, joined by many former members, we’ll top off the evening with a rousing rendition of Defying Gravity.

There’s more. Don’t miss the fun!

Yearbook: Class of 1990 will be presented on Saturday, May 10 at 7:00 p.m. at the Unitarian Society of New Haven, 700 Hartford Turnpike, Hamden.

Since its first show in 1990, Another Octave has been engaging audiences around Connecticut and out of state with energetic performances and an eclectic repertoire that includes standard concert pieces as well as traditional and contemporary music reflecting women’s lives.
