New Haven, CT — New Haven Ballet, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, is proud to offer dancers the highest caliber of classical ballet training in the Greater New Haven region through its Student Division, designed for dancers ages 8 to 19. This program blends rigorous classical technique with diverse workshops and performance opportunities to cultivate strong, expressive dancers.

The Student Division curriculum includes pointe and repertory classes, as well as a rich variety of workshops spanning classical, neo-classical, contemporary, and lyrical dance styles. Additional offerings include choreography, partnering, conditioning, injury prevention, and Pilates, ensuring a holistic approach to dancer development.

New students are invited to participate in a placement class to determine the best fit within the program’s structured levels:

•Levels 1–2: Building the Foundation (Ages 8–9+)

Dancers begin formalized ballet training, building strength, discipline, and classical vocabulary while continuing the language of ballet introduced in the Children’s Division. Level 2 students complete a written exam to progress to Level 3.

•Levels 3–4: Expanding Skills & Expression (Ages 10–11+)

Students solidify foundational techniques and begin to explore artistry and more complex movements, including introductory pointe work.

•Levels 5–6: Strength, Precision & Artistry (Ages 12+)

Advanced technical training includes refined turns, jumps, and expanded pointe work, with a focus on precision and expressive performance.

•Levels 7–8: Mastery & Performance (Ages 13–14+)

Dancers develop stamina, complex choreography skills, and advanced pointe technique. Partnering opportunities are available by invitation to support pre-professional growth.

“Our Student Division is designed to nurture dancers’ technical skill and artistic voice while preparing them for advanced performance and professional opportunities,” said Lisa Kim Sanborn, Artistic Director. “We are committed to fostering a supportive environment where dancers can thrive.”

Registration is now open for the upcoming season. Enrollment is limited to ensure personalized attention and quality training, so prospective students and families are encouraged to schedule their placement class early to secure their place.
