La Passion de Carmena unique collaboration of Opera and Dressage

In a collaboration with Patricia Norcia Dressage and High Hopes Therapeutic Riding, Opera Theater of Connecticut is proud to present La Passion de Carmen.

“Imagine listening to highlights from one of the most beloved and tragic operas sung by amazing singers and interspersed with a troupe of choreographed dancing Spanish and Lusitano horses performing to more Carmen musical highlights—all in one of Connecticut’s best-known riding arenas.” said OTC General Director Kate Ford.

“This is an incredibly unique production!” stated OTC Artistic Director Alan Mann. “We’ve checked and we’re pretty sure this type of collaboration, Opera and Dressage, hasn’t been done anywhere here in the States. And it’s right here on the Shoreline.”

“Ticket sales have been amazing.” Ford explained. “Although we announced the shows back in May, most of our PR has gone out only very recently and already both shows are over half sold. People are really intrigued by this three-way collaboration, and it’s showing at the box office. We’re thrilled to see younger people coming too, mostly riding students. With the general admission seating limited to only 200 per show, this event is sure to sell out!”

“Our audience seems to be an amazing mix of opera fans and riding fans. We have something wonderful to offer each of them. At our preview performance in June, the audience was thrilled when the horses passed within feet of them and then the opera voices filling the arena capped it all perfectly!” added Mann.

This one-act event will be presented on Saturday, September 10 and Sunday, September 11, 2022, at 3:00PM, at the High Hopes Arena in Old Lyme.
