Connecticut Dance Alliance to host annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Dance on January 17, 2022





HARTFORD, CT – December 20, 2021 The Connecticut Dance Alliance will be once again be hosting its MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. DAY OF DANCE on JANUARY 17, 2022 at CREC’s Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts Half Day Program, 15 Vernon Street, Hartford, CT from 10am – 2:30pm.


The annual event honors the teachings and legacy of Dr. King as well at the abundant African American contributions to the world of dance. This year we celebrate the black dancers from communities around Connecticut with classes in Afro-Caribbean, stilt walking, popping, Horton technique and capoeira. The event also focuses on elements of collaboration, history and educating the participants on the experiences of people of color in the dance world.


The day will consist of two sets of master classes and a panel discussion with our guest artists about their experience in dance as artists of color.


This year's artists include Peter Reynolds (Studio 860), Thulani Davis (Spectrum in Motion Dance Theater). Christine Kershaw (Cooperative Arts & Humanities High School), Stephen Hankey (Cooperative Arts & Humanities High School, Island Reflections Dance Theatre Company) and Mellissa Craig (CREC Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts, Judy Dworin Performance Project)
