Chester Shines for the Holidays




Many eagerly anticipated holiday activities are about to unfold in Chester Village, starting with this Friday’s Starry Nights when the famous Chester stars go alight for the season on Main Street. The evening’s festivities run from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., with stores open late and the Mystic River Brass Ensemble playing holiday favorites. Mark your calendars to catch this December 1 event (5 p.m. to 8 p.m.). Don’t forget to stop in at Chester’s famous Wish Booth to make your heart’s desire known.


Handmade gifts and crafts can also be procured on December 1 at Chester’s 15th Annual Shopping Extravaganza from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Historic Chester Meeting House at 4 Liberty Street.


Wanting to adorn your front door with a wreath? The Chester Hose Company’s Annual Wreath Sale is happening on December 2 and 3 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 8 High Street. Just across the street (29 W. Main Street) at the United Church of Chester on December 2 from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. is the church’s annual Christmas Fair.


Every Sunday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. through 12/24 is the Chester Holiday Market, where special vendors join favorite store owners in ushering in the holiday cheer with gifts just right for the season.


Pay a return visit to the Chester Meeting House on December 9 to catch The Friends of Chester Library’s Holiday Book & Craft Sale from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Some artisans who’ll be there: Chakana Sky Alpacas, Peg Meehan, JEM Rustic Designs, Donna Frie and more. Lending music to the event will be Alex & Ryan from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.


Later, on the evening of December 9 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., catch a free debut concert from Ernest at the Chester Meeting House.


On Sunday, December 17, at 5:30 p.m., Santa and Mrs. Claus pay a visit to Chester Village via a fire truck (thanks, Chester Hose Company). Look for them outside of Little House Brewing.
