Celebrate the Year of the Snake At New Haven Museum During Lunarfest 2025

New Haven, Conn. (January 15, 2025)— Celebrate the Year of the Snake in New Haven on Saturday, February 1, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., as the New Haven Museum teams with the Yale-China Association for Lunarfest 2025. The free event offers activities and programs for all ages, featuring art, music, literature, and dance. Full schedule: www.yalechina.org/lunarfest

 



Schedule 

  • 10 a.m. - Lunarfest begins with a colorful lion dance and performances on Whitney Avenue. 

  • 12 - 4 p.m. - Visitors may write their hopes for the coming year on a leaf to hang on the Wishing Tree in the New Haven Museum rotunda. 

  • 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. - Wushu demonstrations by Wu Dang Kung Fu Academy with mini classes for attendees. Wu Dang Kung Fu Academy preserves the core value of Chinese Kung Fu, blending traditional techniques with modern teaching. 

  • 1:30 – 2:30 - Beauty, Health, and Power: Tai Chi and Qigong with Shifu Shirley Chock. Inspiring demonstrations and mini workshops. Heal your body with therapeutic Qigong; strengthen with flowing Tai Chi. Try sword-fighting techniques and twirling metal fans. 

  • 2 - 3 p.m. - Learn the traditional art of Chinese papercutting with Yale University-New Asia exchange students. 

  • 2:30 - 4 p.m. - Hands-on workshop with apprentices from the Eli Whitney Museum.
