This cast of singers is drawn from some of the most exciting professional young talent available. It is part of STA’s mission to present professionals at just the start of their careers to Shoreline audiences. As an example, New York baritone William Huyler comes from a recent engagement singing the lead role of Papageno in Mozart’s Magic Flute, as part of the Prague Summer Nights Music Festival in Prague, Czech Republic. William showed his versatility by singing, as part of that same festival, a musical theatre set of tunes by Jason Robert Brown at Prague’s Reduta Jazz Club. Boston tenor and Harvard graduate Jonas Budris performs regularly with Opera Boston while also appearing in such musical theatre stalwarts as Sweeney Todd and Candide.
SIX is a new original musical by composer and Guilford resident Chad Hardin. STA is bringing SIX to Shoreline audiences following a seven-year development in New Jersey and New York. SIX was first presented as an Equity workshop at the South Orange Performing Arts Center in South Orange, New Jersey in 2013; and again at SOPAC in 2014 as a production of the Midtown Direct Repertory Theatre, and with a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts and the New Jersey State Council on the Arts.
Two more workshops followed in New York City in 2015 and 2017, at the Chelsea Studios and at the Physics Theatre. Producer Steven Tabakin of the Public Theatre and Tashtego Films attended one of the performances and had this to say: “SIX has many elements I tend to look for – a fresh approach to a unique story, rich and compelling characters, a smart sense of humor, and, most importantly, that it absolutely needs to be a musical – that the passions and sorrows and inner lives of the characters are so big and so overwhelming that they can be expressed in no other way, I believe the authors have made a significant contribution to the form with this show, and that it deserves to find a wide audience.”
Come and join us on October 13 at 8pm at First Church of Christ, Scientist in Guilford for a night of Broadway favorites and a preview of several of the musical numbers composed for SIX.; and save the dates of May 30 – June 2, 2019 to see a full-scale production of this exciting new musical SIX by the very talented Guilford composer Chad Hardin.
