Kelly Clark

Born and raised on the shoreline of Connecticut, I’ve been absorbed in anything creative as long as I can remember. I attended Pratt Institute where I earned a Bachelor's degree in Communications Design. I now live and work as a painter and graphic designer. For me, art is an endless and ever-changing exploration of color, form and feeling. Beautiful things seen and felt send me to my easel, where I feel compelled to say something in paint.

Kathy Conway
Photographer
My birth as a photographer took place as an oil painter. Photography was simply a resource for creating paintings and an excuse to explore the wonderfully diverse world we live in. It was my way to connect with people in their environments and learn about their culture. Then photography became my vehicle for self-expression. Initially, I focused on seeing this world in color - Edward Hopper and Andrew Wyeth’s use of light and contrast were a source of inspiration

Laurie Douglas
Visual Artist
I make paintings and mixed media works that are about color, landscape and impressions of the natural world. I employ many layers of paint, texture and drawing, reinterpreting organic forms through the dual lenses of imagination and memory.
For most of the past 10 years, I have been painting primarily in encaustic (pigment permanently burned into wax). Many individual pieces make use of fabric and wallpapers in their overall design, reflecting a love for textile art. I am fascinated by ocean currents, crop circles, and geological and floral imagery, and hope to reveal in the work what lies beneath the surface.
After receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Fine Arts from Dickinson College in Pennsylvania and studying art and literature for a year in France, I spent years teaching public middle and high school in New England and in the Bahamas. I then returned to my own education, studying at The Massachusetts College of Art with John McNamara, Jeremy Foss and Dan Kelleher and receiving the 1914 Award for Excellence in Painting and a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.
My paintings have been exhibited in juried shows and galleries throughout the Northeast, among them: the Montserrat School of Visual Arts, The Boston Bromfield Gallery, Artspace in New Haven, The Mill Gallery in Guilford, The Slater Memorial Museum in Norwich, and The Keyes Gallery of The Willoughby Wallace Memorial Library in Stony Creek. For many years I was represented by The Greene Gallery in Guilford.
I am a member of the Shoreline Arts Trail and the Connecticut Women Artists Association, and have attended the 10th Annual International Encaustic Conference in Provincetown, Massachusetts.
On Martha's Vineyard, my paintings have been shown at the Gay Head Gallery, The Field Gallery, and The Dragonfly Gallery. I have been awarded the All-Island Art Show Ruth Bogan Award and a Guilford Savings Bank Award at a Guilford Art League Annual Juried Exhibition. My paintings hang in many private collections throughout the United States.

Jan Doyle
Presenter
Art Quilter, Photographer
Jan Doyle is a media personality with her own show, Wyse Talk, on cable and YouTube. Jan has appeared on Good Morning CT for three years with Classroom Connections, taught elementary and high school, and loves to travel.
As a teacher, Jan felt the one page in the history books devoted to the Underground Railroad completely inadequate. Personal interest and study led to the creation of the program Quilts and the Underground Railroad: Fact or Fiction. “What makes my presentation unique is the historical facts juxtaposed with folklore and legend. This presentation is enhanced with my handmade quilts, an historical quilt and current information on the Underground Railroad.”
Another passion is to “incorporate photography with my quilting. I discovered thread painting my images on fabric is something I love to do. I feel very fortunate to be able to share my interest in photography and love of quilting with others.” Her quilts and photographs have been exhibited in galleries and art centers.
Jan presents at conferences, schools, quilt guilds, libraries, art centers, and churches. Jan taught at the Houston International Quilt show.
Jan is a past Co-Rep for the Connecticut Chapter of Studio Art Quilt Associates, (SAQA), past editor of the SAQA -CT newsletter, and immediate past president of the New Haven Camera Club. You can watch her YouTube videos.

Eileen Eder
Visual Artist
Eileen Frailey Eder, a resident of Connecticut, is a representational painter who works almost exclusively from life. Her harmonious paintings show her affection for light and shadow as well as color and shapes both in nature and in simple objects. Eileen often drew and painted throughout her teenage and early adult years. After raising a family she attended the New York Academy of Art, graduating with an MFA degree in 1998. Following grad school, Eileen began her full time professional career painting and teaching, being grateful to enjoy the challenge, joy, and fulfillment of painting ever since.
Eileen worked with the figure after leaving grad school but an injury put her in a wheel chair for a few months during which she painted still life at home. She found the genre to be fun, enjoying the graphic design challenge as well as color and reflections in her set ups. Eileen completed a series of over 30 still lives for her first solo show at the George Billis Gallery in NY in 2006. Still Life dominated Eileen’s painting for the next 10 years but the desire to work in nature started another love, plein air painting.
After taking workshops with a number of influential teachers including T. Allen Lawson, Don Demers and Israel Hershberg, spending many hours on site, Eileen began to get accepted to plein air festivals and win awards for her landscapes. Eileen considers New England as the perfect location for her triple life, working on still life in the studio in nasty weather and moving outdoors for plein air painting once the weather warms, and, always sharing her knowledge with all her many beloved students.

Kimberly Kenna
Children's Book Author
A shy child, Kimberly surprised her parents when she announced her plan to run away and join the circus as a trapeze artist. To keep her around for a while, Kimberly’s father built her a backyard trapeze from a piece of pipe and some rope. Hanging by her knees upside down from the branches of an old elm tree turned an ordinary world into a magical one full of adventure. Just down the road was the beach where she chatted with herons, crabs and sandpipers, and read books about brave girls like Nancy Drew. In real life, she was lucky to be mentored by strong women including teachers and, of course, her mother.
After quietly moving through high school, Kimberly went on to earn a B.A. in psychology and an M.S. in counseling. During those years, she worked as a breakfast cook (poached eggs are still her disaster), a detective’s assistant (tracking down wayward husbands and insurance scammers) and a martial arts instructor. It was only when she married her high school sweetheart and had two sons that she stumbled into her love of the creative arts. While coaching her boys’ Odyssey of the Mind (creative problem-solving) teams, she witnessed how writing and performing plays that highlighted their quirky creations sparked kids to take risks, embrace their voice, and stand tall in the face of challenges. This was the experience that sent her back to school to become a teacher.
Fifth grade proved to be her sweet spot. As her students wrote and produced plays that highlighted their learning, Kimberly’s belief in the power of story deepened. It was a bittersweet moment when she left her classroom to once again return to school to honor her own stories, earning her M.A. in creative writing. Her thesis, a full-length adult play entitled Ana’s Hummingbird, received a staged reading at the Dramatist’s Guild in NYC. She also dabbled in short stories and poetry which have been published in American Writers Review, Mused, Rubbertop Review and Plum Tree Tavern.
It’s no wonder that after so many years of inspiring interactions with children, Kimberly turned to writing middle grade novels. Each of her three books features a brave girl protagonist whose love of nature helps her find her voice and stand up for her beliefs. The first of the three, Artemis Sparke and the Sound Seekers Brigade, was awarded honorable mention in the 2019 Tassy Walden New Voices in Children’s Literature contest. Kimberly can’t wait to see the book in children’s hands and hopes it launches a whole new flock of brave kids willing to speak out and share their own stories.

Earl Grenville Killeen
Visual Artist
Having moved from New York City to the Connecticut Shoreline in 1981, Earl has been active in the arts community as an exhibiting artist, writer, and teacher, and through his involvement with the Shoreline Arts Alliance. He founded the Alliance’s Future Choices Annual Juried Show for regional high school students, now in its fourth decade, and in 2017 he established an annual Founder’s Award for the show, to be shared by an art teacher and a student artist.
Earl’s work in acrylics, watercolor, pen & ink, and graphite have appeared in many exhibitions, as well as in publications, including feature articles in The Artist’s Magazine and Splash 3; and he is the author of The North Light Book of Acrylic Painting Techniques (1995). In addition to many awards for his paintings, Earl has received three Individual Artist Grants (two from the State of Connecticut).
In his current work as a watercolorist, Earl explores layering and texturing techniques that include power-sanding, liberally spraying the painted surface with water, and applying dampened beach sand that is scraped off when dry. His work in recent years explores a range of subjects, from images abstracted from heavy construction machinery in the Totemics series to the imaginative self-portraits that are Out of This Soul.
When not in his studio, Earl enjoys the aesthetics and serenity of the abundantly-flowering garden that he has transformed his backyard into, reading, and communing with his cat.
