Wesleyan Potters, Inc. is a non-profit cooperative guild founded in 1948 to promote the learning and development of skills in crafts.

Not just a pottery, Wesleyan Potters offers classes in three different media: weaving, metalsmithing and ceramics. The weaving studio is equipped with thirty looms. The fully-equipped metalsmithing studio has recently acquired new enameling kilns.

The pottery studio is equipped with eighteen pottery wheels, two slab rollers, two extruders, two glazing booths, and generous working space and tools for hand building. Additionally, the studio has two gas kilns, seven electric kilns for bisqueware, a raku kiln and a soda kiln. Student work is high-fired to cone 10; Students have the opportunity to participate in raku firings occasionally.

The classes are typically nine weeks long and sessions are offered year-round in on a lottery basis. Well-qualified instructors design classes to accommodate all levels of experience and skill. Additionally, the studio offers jewelry, ceramics, weaving and basketry workshops featuring demonstrations and hands-on experiences with nationally known craftspeople.

Youth classes are offered in pottery for students in third grade and higher. The Summer program includes a wider range of classes including pottery, fibers, batik, metalworking, basketry and mixed media sculpture.

The Gallery/Shop exhibits and sells a constantly changing display of fine handcrafts by Wesleyan Potters members and especially talented outside craftspeople. Items are sold at a range of prices and our staff will help you choose the perfect gift. Our customer service extends to arranging special commission work and some of our members offer small jewelry repairs.

Visitors are welcome by appointment made in advance by calling the Pottery at (860) 347-5925.

With support from the Department of Economic and Community Development, Connecticut Office of the Arts, which also receives support from the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.
