The Barnum Museum was established in 1891 by Phineas Taylor Barnum (1810-1891) to promote the cultural heritage of Bridgeport, Connecticut, and to serve as a permanent home for the programs and collections of the Bridgeport Scientific Society and the Fairfield County Historical Society. Today, the building stands as a testament to Barnum’s lifelong devotion to provide education and entertainment to the public. The Museum continues to promote Barnum’s instructive entertainment philosophies.
