Commission on Culture and Tourism (CCT) has awarded the NHSO a grant in the amount
of $12,980.00 from the Connecticut Arts Endowment Fund.
In 1988, the state established the Arts Endowment Fund in order to

State grants are awarded through a competitive process. The grant

repertoire to a wide and diverse audience; to provide quality educational
experiences for all ages; to perform regularly in the Greater New Haven Region;

Triton Horn Trio (left to right):
Mihae Lee, piano; William Purvis, horn; and Ani Kavafian,
violin An afternoon of glorious selections by Brahms, performed by
exceptional, world-renowned local artists, closes the Essex Winter Series
season. Sonata No. 1 for Piano and Cello in E Minor, Op. 38, reflects the
composer's commitment to classical forms and his distinctive romantic
expressiveness; Violin Sonata, No. 1 in G Major, Op. 78, is delightfully
lyrical; and Trio in E-flat Major for Violin, Horn and Piano, Op. 40, is a
marvelous blend of elegy and romp, tragedy and triumph. What a range of
emotions Brahms offers! Hear them all, beautifully performed, in what promises
to be a spectacular concert.

No Child...
Written and performed by Nilaja Sun
Directed by Hal Brooks
In her revelatory solo show, writer/performer Nilaja Sun draws from firsthand
experience as a teaching artist in New York City's public schools, portraying
16 characters in 70 minutes to illuminate the trials and triumphs within
America's education system. No one - teacher, student, janitor, principal
or security guard - is left behind by Sun's hilarious and heartbreaking expose,
which has been a smash hit off Broadway and across the nation.

MARGRETA STAGE MARCH 1 - APRIL 5 ACTING CLASS FOR ADULTS PLUS NEW SEASON INFORMATION |
|
 Margreta Stage
The New Year Brings A New Season
Happy New
Year to all our MSC family. And what a year we have planned. The year starts
off in full swing with new acting classes for young people ages 10 to 17. Both
Ed Wilhelms and Getchie Argetsinger are back teaching a variety of techniques
to the young people in and outside our company. Jeanie Rapp will again hold her
acting class for adults over a six week schedule starting in March. If you
haven't taken one of her classes here is another chance to get bit by the
acting bug. Jeanie teaches using a
variety of acting exercises and scene study to help the actor, beginner or
advanced, hone their skills. These classes will fill up quickly so to learn
more go to www.margretastage.org.
In 2010 we
plan to continue our commitment to new works for the theater with: New Plays: A
Margreta Stage Reading Series. We are currently reading some wonderful new
plays and will be announcing our first play reading soon. Stay tuned for when
the New Plays Series will kickoff.
MSC is off
and running as we read plays, brainstorm and collaborate with our theater
friends looking for the next project that would be a perfect reading or main
stage production. Our website is also growing and a new blog will soon be
launched. There are so many things to be excited about. As always the website
will serve as your link to find out what is happening at Margreta Stage. Check it out if you haven't already, www.margretastage.org.
Margreta Stage Studio Announces 2010 Winter/Spring
Classes
Acting Class for Adults.
Designed
for actors at all levels. Taught by MSC Artistic Director, Jeanie Rapp, this
six week workshop explores text and spontaneity through scene study and acting
exercises. Working with a partner in scenes from plays is the actor's drawing
board - beginners build the basics of technique and experienced actors build on
and improve their skills. Jeanie's acting exercises are fun and freeing and
help the actor stay grounded in his body and connected to his voice.
This six-week workshop will be held:
March 1st - April 5 in Essex
Monday evenings from 6:30pm to 9:00pm.
Cost: $170.
For all inquiries please

JAZZ'D 4 LIFE HAITI RELIEF
|
|
 Jazz'd 4 Life
Haiti Earthquake Relief
Among the many fine organizations committed to relief for Haiti, Jazz'd 4
Life has a long time partnership with BEMHaiti (bemhaiti.org) I know these people will get direct
help to those who come to them from Port-au-Prince. There will be an influx of
people coming to live outside of P-a-P because it will take months even years
for that city to recover. There is an infrastructure of support and care
already in place through the BEM Network.
We have food donation stations setup in Wallingford
(non-perishables,nonliquids, rice , beans and things that don't need to be
cooked or need water, like granola bars, protein bars, etc)
The governor is working on getting a large shipping container for BEM Haiti
to ship once foods have been collected..
If people are interested in a drop-off address , it's Maplewood Storage
Unit, 929
North Main St Extension (the road
behind the movie theater) in
Wallingford.
Thanks for your help. It feels good to do a little something when you see
all this crazy suffering. Pray for the Peace to be maintained there.
|
We thank you for your concern, and your prayers, and will keep you updated.
Many Blessings,
Arne and Catherine Yaghsizian
PS~ If you would like to donate to Jazzed 4 Life, we will
make sure your money gets to Haiti (www.jazzed4life.org)

With support from Neighborhood Music School, we are continuing our concert series
this fall at the Unitarian Society hall at 700 Hartford Turnpike, Hamden, CT,
06517. This is a gorgeous facility, with plenty of space, and free on site
parking for 170 cars. While not as "historic" as The Little Theater, the sound
is great, the seats comfortable and the toilets flush!! The music is still top
notch!
As usual, we take your suggestions to heart, and try and bring in
artists that you really want to see. Right now we are very close to confirming
at least two shows.... Performers we have been talking with include The
Grascals, Chris Thile and Punch Brothers, Mountain Heart, Tim O'Brien with Bryan
Sutton, Tony Rice and David Grisman, David Bromberg and Jorma Kaukonen, and
Richard Thompson. We aim high, but now we have a track record and a larger hall,
so any of these are possible.
We will keep you informed by email as shows are finalized, and also
check our website http://www.guitartownct.com/. We hope
to see you this fall as we continue to bring the very best in acoustic music to
Connecticut.
