Shoreline Arts Alliance

This program presents free outdoor performances of classic theater on the historic Guilford Green. The summer production for 2011 is The Three Musketeers, performed August 3 - 7 at 7:30pm in Guilford, CT. Bring picnic dinners, blankets & chairs and enjoy 'theater under the stars.' This is the 10th anniversary of the Shakespeare on the Shoreline program and we welcome back Connecticut Free Shakespeare for the sixth year.

Set in the artistic Renaissance of 17th century France, The Three Musketeers is an engaging and timeless action-packed journe best knwn for the often used exclamation "all for one-one for all!" It follows the death-defying exploits of Musketeer wannabe D'Artagnan and his three dashing friends, Athos,Porthos and ARamis as they take on the villainous Cardinal Richelieu and others. This play has been adapted for the stage by playwrights Linda Alper, Douglas Langworthy and Penny Metropolus. Artistic Director is Ellen Lieberman and Bert Garskoff is Executive Producer. The San Francisco Chronicle noted a west coast performance of this adaptation as "a constantly turning kaleidoscope of swordplaly and tavern brawls, honor-bound heroes and conniving villains, and thrill plot twists in an almost lost, grand romantic manner."

Shakespeare on the Shoreline is the most popular and well recognized FREE summer cultural event of the Shoreline community and according to the Wall Street Journal
"draws crowds from all over the area with its engaging, entertaining, and educational performances."

Inaugurated in 2002 to great acclaim, the Shoreline Arts Alliance has presented Macbeth, The Tempest, Richard III and Romeo & Juliet performed by the Elm Shakespeare Company of New Haven and in 2006 we introduced Connecticut Free Shakespeare performing Edmond Rostand's classic, Cyrano de Bergerac followed by a production of Love's Labour's Lost in 2007, Much Ado About Nothing in 2008, A Midsummer Night's Dream, 2009 and Twelfth Night in 2010.
