Shoreline Arts Alliance

For two decades the Shoreline Arts Alliance has been presenting free summer evening concerts on the historic Guilford Green, in a wide variety of popular music genres for family entertainment. Our first summer Concert on the Green was held on July 6 featuring theRob Zappulla Quintet. Rob currently tours with the Tommy Dorsey Band and his vocals reflect that of Tommy Dorsey's most famous vocalist, Frank Sinatra. With each great standard that Rob sang, along with his skillful vocal style and his rich baritone, the audience was transported back to the days of the original big bands. Major sponsor of this concert was the New Haven Register & Shore Line Newspapers with additional sponsorship to date from John Casso & Mark Serchuck, Big Nanny's Biscotti House, Frank's Package Store, Greene Art Gallery, Page Insurance, The Stone Agency.

We introduced a new program in the summer of 2007 called KAZOO - Fun For Kids & Families Too! generously sponsored by the Bartner Family Foundation with additional support from the Jane Marcher Foundation, the New Haven Register/Shore Line Newspapers, Hummel Hot Dogs and John Casso & Mark Serchuck. In collaboration with Women & Family Life Center this fun afternoon program presents music and activities for children and the whole family.

This summer's KAZOO II event was held on July 20 beginning at 3pm. The opening act was Steve Roslonek ~SteveSongs, one of today's best performing artists of children's music. All of his songs are interactive and will engage kids of all ages. Steve has played over 200 venues nationwide and beginning in May, 2008 he has been appearing nationally as the host of Morning Block on PBS. For more information on SteveSongs go to www.stevesongs.com. After his performance there were participatory activities for all, including a dance workshop with Summer Northup; painting to music withGIRO, creating wonderful images inspired by music; Drumming About Youwith Bob Bloom, where participants experienced over 200 percussive instruments from around the world; face-painting and other arts and crafts sponsored by the Girl Scouts. Rounding out the day's activities was a performance by theSugarfoot Jazz Band, a group of talented student musicians from the Shoreline area performing traditional jazz classics. They opened for and then sat-in on some sets with the Galvanized Jazz Band, a dynamic group of CT musicians devoted to the energetic performance of Dixieland and New Orleans-style jazz. KAZOO was made possible by a generous grant from the Bartner Family Foundation with additional support from the Jane Marcher Foundation, the New Haven Register/Shore Line Newspapers and many local businesses and donors.

KAZOO was chaired by Cindy Gedge for Shoreline Arts Alliance and Deb Heinrich representing Women & Family Life Center.
